Welcome to Europe in the World! This website serves as an informative platform for everyone interested in topics related to the European Union and Europe in general. This website will be continuously updated with new content.
Europe, as a name, most often refers to the continent of Europe. This continent is situated between the Arctic Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Ural Mountains, the Caucasus Mountains, and the Mediterranean Sea. However, politically, ‘Europe’ can refer to various organizations and institutions that comprise parts of the European continent or countries located beyond its geographic boundaries. One of these organizations is the European Union, which consists of several European institutions and 27 member states. The European Union (EU) is an economic union that has characteristics of both supranational and intergovernmental organizations. Not all countries within Europe are members of the EU. Other European countries, such as Norway and Switzerland, are members of the European Free Trade Association. This trade organization operates closely with the EU. There is also the Council of Europe, a separate organization whose main activities focus on promoting the rule of law and human rights within Europe. Compared to the EU, the membership of the Council of Europe includes nearly all nations of the European continent. Another organization is the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe. The membership of this organization is not limited to countries within Europe. Nations such as Canada, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, the United States, and Mongolia are also members of this organization. This illustrates that Europe can refer to many different entities.
This site aims to provide the reader with an overview of the various types of organizations, as well as historical and contemporary developments concerning the European continent. Other topics covered include international relations theories, different forms of governance within Europe, and important political figures from Europe. This website will primarily focus on events that have occurred since 1945.
